To Thine Own Self Be True...

The voices in my brain are having an internal debate...
Monday I received a back handed compliment that made me think...She who shall not be named said "wow, aren't you just colorful today...so bright".  I could tell by the look on her face that she did not mean that in a "you look beautiful, love your outfit kind of way.  I did not take any outfit pics, but this is what I wore...grass green full Anthro skirt, Barney purple tank top, brown open weave cardigan light brown ankle books and a scarf leopard print with small orange flowers.  After that comment, I was really self conscience about my outfit.  So, I have been thinking, should I dress a bit more to disappear into a crowd, or keep my flair with my bright colors and layers of jewelry.  I think, when I am feeling loathsome about myself and things, I dress more to fade into the background.  But, when I am feeling like myself and feel good in my outfit, I have no problem standing out.  So, I guess the voices in my head have to keep reminding me that it is ok for others to be slightly aback by my desire to stand out in a crowd and not fade away.

Monday was not a day I felt like having eyes on me...so I decided to dress "quieter"...

Wow, while posting this, I just realized my whole outfit is from Loft.  This sweater is so comfortable... feels like you are wearing your favorite worn in sweatshirt...I might just have to go back and get it in another color. I sound and look like a walking ad for Loft... nope, just a fan!

Wednesday I was feeling better about myself and surroundings, so I was back to my same "loud" self...
I think I should have worn a necklace...

I bet you looked great in your outfit on Monday! People sometimes give me the stare up and down look, which usually signals they may not like my outfit. As I've gotten older I don't even care what people think. I wear what makes me feel good!

Glad you got back to yourself in your zig zag top, it's great! Although, your first outfit is really pretty too. I swoon for those boots! Heather

I love both outfits!! And I've got to say, Keep your flair! Just ignore the haters. =) But that being said, I know what you mean. When I'm having days where I just feel all around crappy, I'll dress in a simple pair of khakis or jeans and a top. Then people don't give me a second glance and I just blend in with everyone else.

I like both outfits, but your colorful Monday outfit sounds like it must have looked great too.

People at my office used to make comments about my outfits too, but I just stopped caring what they think. The only person you should be dressing for is YOU! So if you want to be bright and bold, go for it!

Love the all-Loft ensemble. I find myself doing that a lot, especially with Target clothes.

That LOft outfit is REALLY great!!!!

Don't mind what others say. I know it's hard not to but honestly everyone has a different opinion. I see girls wearing loud outfits who really stand out & I envy them. They just look so darn adorable & I just can't muster up the confidence to go for such a look. Wear what makes YOU happy and makes YOU feel good :)

Women are so horrible sometimes! She was probably just wishing that she knew how to put together an outfit the way you do. I think it's way better to dress in a way that makes you feel good, then to just blend in. I totally understand how a persons comments could effect you in that way though. The town I live in is sooo small, and I'm always getting looks, but I like how I dress, and half of the people giving me looks probably like how I dress too, they just don't know how to react when someone doesn't dress like "the norm". So keep it up!!!

Ignore those ladies. I think they're just scared of ever wearing anything with any type of flair, that they get all insecure and uncomfortable around stylish ladies like you! Let em hate, you look awesome in both outfits. And I don't get the "too bright" comment, because I think both outfits are perfectly normal amounts of bright!

Good for you for listening to that comment and not letting it affect you or change how you dress. You have awesome style--I love both the bolder and more subtle looks you rock. Your style is clearly "you" and you aren't afraid to have fun. So she can put that in her pipe and smoke it :)

The best part about fashion is using it as an extension of your personality. The older I get, the more I like to dress for myself, instead of caring as much what other people think.

Even with that being said, I personally LOVE your style...definitely dress for yourself :)

And also, I love those boots in the first pictures!

All the bloggers I read wear stuff that is too loud for me. I'm too self conscious to wear anything other than black pants or jeans. Keep up your colorful choices and maybe someday your coworker will get up the guts to try something new.
