Today Is Tomorrow...

Happy New Year's...

I don't make new year's resolutions.  I decided about 10 years ago, after spending way too many new years eve's crappy, lonely, drunk, angry, that new year's was just going to signify a turn of the calendar...writing a new date on checks... I resigned myself to try to live each day the fullest...enjoy what I have and not dwell on what I don't.  I freely admit I have strayed from my goals...a lot...but I try to stay happy and positive, but it is not easy!
So, here's too each day...

The big excitement around here was that we had a babysitter for new years.  So, the hubs and I went out for sinner and a movie with some friends.  I probably would have enjoyed Mission Impossible III more if I had not gotten a migraine half way through and and decided to suffer in silence.

I tend to be the dressiest one in our group of friends...always wearing skirts and dresses for casual nights out...I always feel more comfortable in a skirt and would rather be overdressed.  As I was getting dressed for the evening, I initially considered wearing jeans, blending in with everyone else.  But, then I realized that it wasn't me...so I went back to my dressy ways and styled the fun velvet striped shirt with my favorite denim skirt...I am better when I am myself...

Sorry you got a migraine and didn't get to enjoy your NYE as much, but you still looked really great and I love being dressy/casual.

Glad you got out for the night, but too bad about the migraine.

And I have that scarf too! You might remember I bought it when we went shopping together this fall. :) A shiny accessory is perfect for NYE!

I agree, being yourself when you're getting dressed makes for a much better time! You look really cute!

Sorry that you got a migraine!! That sucks. I went to see Sherlock Holmes the other day and smacked my head on the wall walking into the theatre! =/ My head hurt the entire movie!

I like the denim skirt. It is a good balance between dressy and casual!

I'm also the "overdressed friend" (maybe that's why we have fashion blogs?) and I sometimes talk myself into dressing down. But most of the time I just dress how I like. I think you look great in that skirt, keep dressing up girl!

Love all of the textures here, from the denim to the velvet and shimmery scarf. I'm sorry your head wasn't feeling so festive! But you're right--always always always better to be yourself!

I 100% think you are right to just own your overdressed-ness! It's okay, and people always know you took time to care about how you look, which is a good thing!

Sorry to hear you head a migraine during an ACTION movie! That must have been awful. On the note of being the dressiest one in your friend group--I hate that feeling too! But, I've been trying to not care as much and just BE ME, regardless of all the awkward attention with comments like, "Oh, you're so dressed up!" even if it's just a simple cotton dress. I love that you just wore what you wanted to wear rather than reverting to blending in!
