Lay It On Me!

I layer, there for I am...

Vest-Gap/tshirt-Old Navy/Sweatshirt-Hot Momma/Jeans-Wit & Wisdom/Shoes-DSW/Jewelry-Tardis Chicago, Black Sheep

This outfit is essentially my non-work uniform.  Skinny jeans, layered tops, and booties.  I really love the way today's incarnation of the uniform came out.  These jeans are labeled as turquoise, but I see them as a green/blue shiny mess.  Funny story...When I tried on these jeans at Nordstrom's, Alex was at the end of his rope, so I threw them on quickly, made sure they fit and got the hell out of the store before he had his meltdown.  I just thought they were denim blue, until I wore them for the first time and realized nope.  Now, I love the fact the are different...kind of funky! I consider this great sweatshirt a casual excuse for a drapey blazer.  This vest is the purchase from the gap I was referring to in the previous post.  I love it...I just want to wear it over everything.  As I previously discussed my dislike of bulky jackets, this vest is perfect for casual days until it the weather becomes so cold I cannot bear to have no sleeves.  The hood is detachable, but the fur makes me feel fancy!  The necklace is new...a glass Tardis from Doctor Who...I am a geek and I embrace it!!

When Alex saw me taking these photos out on our porch, he threw on his shoes and joined me for some fun.  He loves to pose for pictures!  Please pardon the mess...toys seem to sprout legs an migrate to the porch!

We All Fall Down...

Fall Purchases

I did not dare venture out to the stores on Black Friday...I am just so not a fan of crowds.  I prefer to do my shopping from the warmth of my couch while watching TV!  I have been looking for a sweater with a bow details and found this one at The Limited for 50% percent off.  I have been loving The Limited lately!  The puffer vest I ordered a while back finally arrived.  I love the neutral color...plus it has a zip off fur trimmed hood!! since I tend to layer in the winter versus wearing a heavy coat, so this vest is perfect! I am currently lusting for a new black bag...big enough to wear cross body and carry all my crap, plus my kids random crap too.  Also, I am on the hunt for brown ankle boots.  My non work uniform consists of skinny jeans, layers and black booties.  I could definitely use a pair of brown ones to round out my wardrobe!

I am still on my might as well wear dresses to work while I have the chance kick...

Please pardon the puffy eyes, deep circles under said eyes and unsightly cold sore.  The flu, congested sinuses and general crappy feeling that I thought I had kicked recently is currently kicking my ass!!

Nope...a good family photo was not taken on Thanksgiving!  There is not a single one where both boys are looking within the vicinity of the camera at the same time...maybe next year!

Boys Will Be Boys...

Dress-Style & Co/Boots-William's/Jewelry-H&M, Macy's, The Limited, Lori's

I almost forgot how much I love a good sweater dress... Comfy and warm...

Why are little boys so loud?
Maybe it is just my demon spawn...but, everything they do is just so noisy...whether they are playing, eating, riding in the car, or even getting dressed...nothing can be done quietly...or without fighting.  Jack is off of school this entire week and trying to get the laundry list of errands done yesterday with  two little boys in towe...frusterating and exausting...I cannot even count the amount of times I had to say "leave your brother alone" and "quieter".  Good thing Jack goes to school all day...this stay at home mom thing should be interesting!!

I love these cuties so much!!

I am hoping to have a family portrait taken at Thanksgiving tomorrow.  Since I am always always behind the camera, the last photo of the hubs, the boys and I is form Thanksgiving, 2008!  I am styling the boys in tuxedo shirts and cargo pants.  I am wearing a new black sweater dress and the hubs will be in his holiday best!

I wanted to wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving!  I hope you all get to spend quality time with family and friends and eat tons of apple pie...my favorite food of the holiday season!

I Hear Voices...

Worn to work Monday, November 19

Dress-Michael Kors/Cardigan-Silence and Noise/Boots-Franco Sarto/Jewelry-Black Sheep, Jcrew, F21, Limited

I was contemplating wearing pants today, but all the dresses in my closet were staring at me...taunting me "wear me now...you will have no reason to get all dressed up come January..."  Well, of course I decided to listen to the dresses pleas....  So, I plan to wear only dresses and skirts to work until January.  I used to only be a dress and skirt person, but I recently made a truce with pants and jeans and have begun enjoying their friendship.  But I have a feeling they will wear out their welcome once I transition to stay at home mom.  This dress is an old favorite...bought at the Nordstrom's Anniversary sale back in 2007I usually dress it up with a blazer, but since I had no meeting today and would be sitting at my desk most of the day, I tried to style it a bit more casual.  I threw on this moto jacket sweatshirt thing and a dangly necklace.  I am not sure the blog has every seen these boots before... These were purchased at the Nordstroms Anniversary sale summer 2005...told you I always buy something at that sale... I wore them for a holiday party when I was 6 months pregnant with Jack at the end of 2005.  The were so uncomfortable with by swollen preggo feet, that they got relagated to a storage box and never saw the light of day until we moved.  Fast forward 3 years late, I finally unpacked the box and discovered a new to me pair of boots...woo hoo...the wedge is about 2 1/2 comfy inches!

Other ways I have worn this dress...

Crap On A Stick...

Blah...that is how I am feeling today.  My eyes are burning...my sinuses are so congested that I am pretty sure my head is going to explode and my throat hurts.  So, tea and soup for me.  But, I did get dressed today...I had to go to work.  Since I had no meetings, I dressed casual and comfy...glasses and all!

 Sweater, Jeans-Target/Booties-Nicole/Jewelry-F21, Target

I guess this outfit is sponsored by the letter T...Target...I guess I shop there way too much.
I know glasses are trendy right now and a lot of people look great in them.  But, I am so not a fan of the way I look in them...I feel like just a plain nerdy dork...no nerd chic going on here.

I need more tea...and then a nap...please.

Boots, Boys and Barbeque...

Worn to work Wednesday, November 14...I still cannot believe it is November, and it is already half over!

Dress, Boots-LOFT/Jacket-Moda via Nordstrom's/Jewelry-Fox's, Target, Francesca's

I had a photo shoot for a restaurant client after work this evening, so I decided on styling my staple black sheath dress form LOFT.  To ad some personality, I added my new lace bomber jacket and the ever faithful bubble necklace.  I am loving this jacket...I cannot wait to pair it with jeans and a bright tank or mix the print with a black striped skirt.

File this under wacky Wednesday with my boys...

I dropped Alex off for a play date this morning.  He was so excited to see Ben, he was hugging and kissing him!! When Ben's mom dropped Alex off she said "this is awkward and I wanted to tell you so you didn't think the boys were playing doctor or anything weird, but when Alex went to the bathroom, he got upset because he forget to put on underwear today and he had just realized it."  Ummm...ok.  Only my kid...like I always say, thank god he is cute!!  Alex later informed me..."you must call Ben's mom tomorrow and arrange a play date for Ben to come to our old house next weekend since we don't live by school...you should call he after work, I told her about it earlier."  Who needs me...Alex is arranging his own play dates with his friends moms!!

Since I am styling boots today...much like every day in cooler weather...I am linking up with Everybody, Everywear...go check out how all the other ladies are styling their boots!

How Do I Get To Where I Am Going...

On Halloween, I said that every day, when I get up and get dressed, I feel like I am putting on some sort of a costume.  I have been pretty depressed lately and Thursday was a pretty low point.  So, when I woke up on Friday, I decided that today I needed to toughen up, put on my strong mom mask, and face the day.  To add to my costume of a tough chick and mom who is up for the challenge, I decided to go with my skinny teal-ish, metallic-ish jeans and my moto sweatshirt.  I then added a bunch of spikey bracelets.  I felt pretty self confident in this outfit.  It is amazing what certain pieces of clothing can do for your spirit...

And now for an added bonus...
Since I usually post photos of what I am wearing to work, since on days at home with Alex, I tend to just style jeans and t-shirts, here is my weekend casual look.

Jeans-Gap/Top-LOFT/Shoes-Toms

Since this will probably be the last time the weather here will see a temperature above 50, I took advantage of the unseasonably warm weekend and styled my mint boyfriend jeans with no socks!  Probably the last time you will see my ankles naked until spring.  But, since it is November I had to put on a long sleeve t-shirt.  Love this Loft t with the stripes and lace combo...

Get used to seeing me in my casual duds...soon that is what I will be styling...all week long...

Life As I Know It...

Worn to work Wednesday, November 7

Dress-Old Navy/Blazer-Fox's/Shoes-Steve Madden/Jewelry-Target, F21, Lori's

I picked up this dress on a recent trip to Old Navy.  I have been on a versatile black dress...my two loft ones have begun to pill and fade...so I thought I would try this dress that I had seen advertised everywhere.  I am thinking it is going to be a fine substitute for my other dresses...

I need to get a few things out of my head, so I am going to spill, in hope it clears my mind so i can go back to being a functioning member of society...
I have been in denial these past few months...as of the end of next month I will unemployed. i will still be doing a bit of freelance work for my company, but not enough to call it a part-time job or anything. The last time I did not have a job, it was over 10 years ago and I did not have to worry about a mortgage, kids, a husband.  My coping mechanism back them would be pretty destructive now and I know better than to fall into old patterns.  But, I am having trouble dealing with my current situation.  I am 36 and I have 10 years and have had two jobs in my adult life, TV producer and advertising account executive, and now I am lost on what comes next.  I have considered working retail, but my wages would not be enough to cover a babysitter for Alex on the days he does not have school, so that is out.  I have applied for 13 advertising and marketing jobs with no luck so far.  I am lost and I just don't want to fall into a depression that I know all too well and lose my identity.

Ok...so back to real life...there are dishes to be done and a kid to be picked up form school...

Pain In The Membrane...

Oh well hello November....

Sweater-Limited/Skirt-Target/Booties-DSW/Jewelry- Jeweliq, Target, Madewell

Since the weather is currently screaming fall...I thought I would style the sweater that I feel echos that yell... Not bulky or heavy enough for winter, but the color, vibe and short sleeves make it perfect for this season.  My grand plan was to wear the sweater today with a mustard colored pencil skirt and camel lace up booties.  Not sure why I even bother to plan...I found a big pink stain on the skirt (looks like marker) and I forgot to get the booties resoled after I tripped and fell in them last spring...I wore through the soles and they became too slippery to walk in...  So, I thought the coral pencil skirt would transition well to my fall wardrobe paired with the fall sweater.  On my feet, I opted for my other pair of brown ankle boots!
I am loving the fall vibe of this outfit...

The weekend was definitely not long enough... I am not sure how it got to be Monday again so soon and November just came out of nowhere.  Before long it is going to be the holidays....parties, no school for the boys and maybe even snow.
Time needs to slow down a bit...I cannot catch up...
