Supermom Never Had Two Boys

Worn Tuesday, December 29

Boots-Kenneth Cole/Jeans,Tank-Old Navy/Sweater-Gap

I hate having to take outfit photos inside...but it is too darn cold to trek out there during my lunch break!
I tried to put together an outfit today that would be functional for all the running around I had to do. Not sure I like it now that I see it in pictures...oh well, too late, better luck next time. Today was long...school drop off...work with Alex in tow...school pick up...babysitter...work...and back to the babysitter. I swear, supermom never had two little boys who like to have screaming contests in the car and she must have mainlines caffeine...

Back to the Grind

Worn to work Monday, November 28

Dress-Calvin Klein via Fox's/cardigan-Nordstroms Rack/Boots,Jewelry-ATL

I feel very professional in this outfit today. Just bought this dress yesterday after contemplating and admiring it all week. I love the detailing at the neckline and the waist, not sure if you can see it in the pictures, but it has pleating and kind of a zebra black and brown pattern. It had a fabric belt, but I switched it out for a funkier one.
It's not easy to get back into the swing of work after so many days off, when my alarm when off this morning, I was slightly disturbed, but back to the grind.
My baby is starting school this week. I gave him his new Diego backpack this weekend and he has been carrying it around everywhere...so cute!

I just wanted to stare a bit of what I am thankful for this year...

Now to go back to perusing all the on-line black friday sales...what to buy?

Mild Yet Wet

Worn to Work Monday, November 22

Sweater-Gap/Skirt-BR/Boots-Kenneth Cole

I have had this skirt for about a year and have never worn it before. I always liked the pattern, so when it went on super sale, I just bought it, without trying it on. Of course, when I got it home, it did not really fit, it was a little tight, so I stuck it in the back of my closet in shame. Then this weekend, while attempting to organize my closet, I pulled this skirt out, tried it on....it fit. Wet weather here today, so I had to dig out my trusty rain boots. These boots are my saving grace in the rain and snow...they are fully lined and look nice enough to keep on at the office when I am feeling lazy!
I have a feeling this is going to be a good week...just wish I could get my boys to sleep past 5AM...

Happy Joy

Things that are good, to me..

1. I have gone back to working out. I did not realize how much I missed a good sweat!
2. I had lunch with an old friend today, I miss her so.
3. I discovered this great place, Kids Town. The boys played there for hours, and they
have free coffee. I have a feeling we will be spending a lot of time there.
4. Two day work week.
5. I made a new mom friend. We have so much in common and it is so nice to have someone
who understands to talk to. Great mom friends are so important.
6. I wore jeans today...first time since the surgery!

Friend Friday

Katy at Modly Chic poses questions to fellow bloggers for discussion each Friday.
Here is today's queries...
1. What are the 'unwritten rules' about coping content that we
bloggers should all abide by?
I guess I had never really thought about the whole coping issue until now. I think copying ideas for projects and photo shoots are ok, using them for inspiration.

2. They say imitation is the highest form of flattery. But when it a
post imitation and when is it copying? I think it is copying when you see a project or an idea that another blogger has and you copy it directly saying it is your own and not crediting the original source

3. Taking another blogger's idea (perhaps for an outfit, or DIY
tutorial) is pretty common in the blogging world. Do you think it is
necessary to credit the original source? I definitely think you should credit the original source. When I wear an outfit inspired by one I saw on another blogger, I explain their inspiration and link back to their site. Or if I see a project that I want to do, I have no problem doing the same thing, as long as I reference them any give them credit.

4. How have you improved your blog by comparing it to other bloggers?
Have you made changes due to something you have seen others doing?
I think I have improved my blog by comparing it to others. I find inspiration of outfit ideas and design ideas from other bloggers. I would never copy word for word or exactly, but I do use other bloggers as a platform for ideas.

5. Have you ever had one of your posts copied by another blogger or
publication? How did you handle the situation?
Nope. Not sure I am "big" enough to be copied. If one of my outfits inspired another blogger, I would be honored!

Deserted Island

Worn to Work Thursday, November 18

Skirt-Loehmann's/Tank top-Express/Blazer-ATL/Boots-Kenneth Cole/Jewelry-F21

I felt pretty fancy in this outfit today. You cannot really see all the details, but the top is layers of lace, and the skirt is a silky material.
I have been feeling pretty out of sorts lately. It is very disconcerting to have no control of your body. My stomach is still swollen, but in a new spot and there is a constant feeling of pressure. The whole left side of my body is sore and not much can be done...I guess it is part of the whole healing process. I just hate not being in control.

Reality...Not Just For TV Anymore

Worn to Work Monday, November 16

I just bought a new coat! I figured since it dipped below 40 degrees here in Chicago, it was time for something warmer than my trusty JCrew cargo jacket!

Skirt-Old Navy/Sweater-ATL/Boots-Zara/Jewelry-BR Outlet/Coat-Target

I was trying to decide if I should photograph and post this outfit today. It is not very exciting, just basic...but it is real. I would love to run around all day in fancy dresses and sky-hi heels, but that is not my life. The point of my blog is to just show the real me...mom...advertising account executive...wife...daughter....

Nanny Granny

Worn Monday, November 15

Skirt-Fox's/Sweater-H&M/Ring, Necklace-Target/Boots-ATL
It was a very long weekend...but not in a good, I got to relax and eat chocolate in my pj's weekend. But Monday has found me and my boys all healthy, no more flu, so there is a bright side.
Today I feel like I am the textbook definition of working mom. Took Jack to school...went to Starbucks and tried to get some work done while Alex played on the chairs and said "hi" to everyone who walked in...picked up Jack and took them to the babysitters...took pictures outside the babysitters while they were sleeping in the car...run to the office to try to get some work done...in a few hours, will run to pick them up and drive all the way home to put together something for dinner...I really am tired just writing this. I usually work all day on Mon, Tues, and Friday, but my nanny, who is my mom, is on vacation, so I am on mom duty and nanny duty. I do not know how I could every do it without her...thanks mom!

Product Rave

No, none has ever sent me a product to review...I guess I am not "big" enough...
But, I would like to rave about a flattening iron I purchased recently. First off, I have naturally coarse corkscrew curly hair. I have been straightening it since college...about a decade or so. I never wanted to splurge on a "fancy" flattening iron, so I always used a mid range tool from the local drug store. They have always worked fairly well, but have never lasted very long, I am pretty tough on them.
So, I recently went to Ulta to invest in a "fancy" flattening iron. There was such a selection of tools, I was lost. The wonderful sales person helped me decipher which one would work the best with my hair. Thanks to the ultra helpful people at Ulta, I ended up purchasing the Rusk Professional Ceramic Str8 and I think it might just change my life...or just my hair!
The next morning I went to straighten my hair and my new flattening iron made the job a lot easier and quicker. Instead of having to run the iron through my hair twice or more, one pass and my hair was smooth and straight, I know this is very vain, but my hair is important to me and when my hair looks good, I seem to have a good day!
Thank you Rusk and Ulta...I thank you and my hair thanks you!

Silk+throw up=LBD

Worn November 11

Dress-ATL/Booties,Tights-Target/Jewelery-H&M

So,I had this work party Wednesday night and I had my outfit all planned out. We got home from school, the boys napped, and I put on a silk plum wrap dress that I had been dying to wear. As I am about to put on my heels, I hear screaming downstairs. I go running down to the family room, slip on the stairs and run my tights, to find Jack screaming and covered in throw up...him and the couch and the floor!!
So I scoop him up and carry him in the bathroom, change his clothes and clean the couch and floor. Once everyone is calm, clean and cozy with blankets, juice and a bucket, on the couch, I realize my new silk dress is covered in throw up...I run upstairs and pull out my trusty LBD that I bought at Ann Taylor Loft about 3 years ago for $10. Then I noticed lace patterned tights that I bought on a whim for $4 at Target and had not had the guts to wear and I threw them on with the black booties that were in the front of the closet. I have never worn patterned tights or booties with a dress or skirt...but I thought this was a perfect opportunity to try something new...I think it worked.

Pardon the dark pictures...I took them on the way home from the party at about midnight..I am sure the people walking by were wondering what that girl was doing setting up her tripod and taking pictures on the side of the street.

Only Tuesday...

Worn to Work Tuesday, November 9

Dress-Nine West/Sweater-ATL/Shoes-Steve Madden

The photos do not really do this outfit justice...I felt great in this dress. I tried to mimic the vertical lines of the pattern on the dress with the ruffle front of the cardigan. Since I had meetings all day, I decided to tone down the shortness of the dress and be comfortable and wear my brogues...love them!
Is it really only Tuesday...wow, this week is going so slow!!

Nerd Inspiration

Worn to Work Monday, November 8

Skirt, Tank Top-Old Navy/Cardigan-ATL/Boots-Zara/Belt-Target

Today's outfit was inspired by fellow blogger What a Nerd Would Wear. I have always loved her style, masterful layering. So, today when I as deciding what to wear, I saw this cardi in the closet and thought...wrap it and sinch it with a belt... I love it, love how it shows my waist and makes my cardi more fitted.
Thanks What a Nerd Would Wear!

ReGenesis

Worn Saturday, November 4

skirt-Zara/Sweater-ATL/Boots-Steve Madden
I really like the way this outfit came together. I was looking in my closet for a denim skirt,my two pencil skirts are getting too big, and I found this one that I bought last summer. Love the button details and the pockets. Another striped shirt also with some fun buttons on the sleeves. This was the first time I have worn tights since last winter....almost forgot how much I love them. I am pretty sure my pasty white legs are not going to make another appearance until the groundhog sees his shadow.
so, we went bra shopping...not very exciting to most, but to me it was a step in the right direction.
Oh...the title post...My favorite TV show of all time is ReGenesis...It was a Canadian Sci-fi. One of the main characters was Dr. David Sandstrom, played by peter Outerbridge. He has not been on American TV in a while, but he popped up while I was watcing Nikita on Tivo. I love Canadian Sci-Fi

School Days

Worn to Work Thursday, November 4

Skirt-Old Navy/Top-Gap/Boots-Aldo/Scarf-Took from mom

I love this sweater...not a sweater really, but I heavy, thick t-shirt. Not sure if you can tell, but there is a zipper on the side, I am a sucker for zippers. I almost wore this top with a printed (red/blue/black sketches of Paris) but I felt that would be too much volume...maybe next time tucked in or with a thin belt.
Sometimes I feel like the degenerate mom...I let my two year old have a bottle before bed, I bribed Jack with candy and a new Matchbox car if he behaved at the doctor and got his flu shot. But today I feel like a great mom. I got Jack into the full day Kindergarten for next year...yippee!! Also, I just found a preschool for Alex for this winter. So today I feel like the mom of the week...where's my award...ha!

All Buttoned Up

Worn to Work Tuesday, November 2

Skirt-Old Navy/Shirt-Target/Blazer-ATL/Boots-ATL/Necklace-Black Sheep

Very exciting...I am wearing a button front shirt today...and it doesn't pull!! I am not exaggerating when I say I have not worn a shirt like this in at least 10 years. I purchased this blazer two weeks ago...I had been lusting after it until I had a coupon. Then once I had it in my hot little hands, I was at a loss how to style it. I think today's choice worked, but I am not sure what else to wear it with...any suggestions?
I am off to the doctor in a little while...hopefully he will say that the infection is gone and he will not have to open me up again...I will keep you guys posted. Thanks for all your support throughout this whole surgery and aftermath.
Getting back to the normal routine of work...school...play...and lots of driving is so tiring!

Hit the Target

Worn to Work Monday, November 1

dress-Target/Boots-Steve Madden/Jacket-JCrew

I know my pictures are kind of off today...I waited until after work and it was too shady, so I tried to adjust the color and I just made things worse.

Back to reality....work, school, long drives back and forth...my version of normalcy.
On my lunch break today to stopped by Target. I swear I never walk out of there empty handed. Today at Target I did an amazing thing...I bought 2 button down shirts!!!
I have not worn a button shirt since I was a teenager, my boobs were always too big. I am so excited to put together some outfits with my new shirts
